How to Achieve an Editorial Wedding Aesthetic.

“Editorial” – It's a term that's thrown around loosely. It's become a fashion in its own sense, it was originally derived from the fashion world itself, after all.
There's a danger when a term to describe a style or a movement becomes too popular, it often starts to mean something else entirely. It looses its effect, its genuinity, and then, when you actually want to achieve something that appears “editorial” there’s no where to start.
To achieve this sought after aesthetic, we should first define what it means to be editorial. It helps to think of it as a storytelling medium. A visual conveyance of a message that says refined, high-end, fashion focused. Below are the three contributing factors to ensure you achieve the editorial wedding of your dreams:
AUTHENTICITY
First and foremost, this is the basis to an editorial event. Authenticity is often underlooked when it comes to events that are designed to create an impact. Why? It's because trends are all around us. Through social media, especially, we are drip fed ideas, we are told what we like, we are then shown these same things over and ocer again, until they become what we want. And so, a trend is born, and as is the nature of human desire, we want to embed these trends in our designs to keep them current, but this doesn’t necessarily keep them timeless. There is a fine line between adopting trends and actioning authenticity which is often crossed.
What makes an editorial event as such are the elements that are authentic and sentimental to the couple. The pieces that are passed down from generations, that may appear “outdated”, pieces that you'll most likely second guess – the finer elements that become imperfectly perfect.
SIMPLICITY
Elegance and refinement are built out of simplicity. Knowing when to pull back when it comes to your make up, gown, and styling will make all the difference.
THE RIGHT PHOTOGRAPHER
Editorial is in the style, and not in the name. Pay careful attention to the photographers you've shortlisted. Editorial photographers will often showcase photos that are unstaged and authentic, simple and timeless. Editorial photography is focused on the fine detail, intimate moments and naturalism. An editorial photographer is unlikely to mold you into poses that are overdone (think throwing your bouquets up in the air, putting your earrings on in front of the mirror). They will allow you to be yourself on the day and give you the right amount of direction to get the shot when it matters.
At Cene, we specialise in creating editorial moments that are authentically you. For more information or to discuss how to achieve this aesthetic for your wedding day, contact us here.
